Whenever I get home from a rough day at school the thing I want to do most is play Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I don't want to fight the battles or save Princess Zelda, I want to fish. It's calming, relaxing, and I love seeing the different things you can catch. It ranges from different types of fish, bags of rupees, to useless trash.
Looking on one of the official Zelda websites I found a list of the fish you can catch and one caught my attention. It was a forbidden fish that wouldn't be added to your fishing record. Naturally I had to check it out. This fish I was going to capture and prize above all the other fish. The fish I caught was called the Skullfish. It can only be caught in the Lakebed Temple or within some secret caves in Hyrule Field.
I was not going to spend most of my day looking for a spot in Hyrule Field only to spend the rest of my day fishing for something I looked up online and didn't know if it even existed. Making up my mind I journeyed to the Lakebed Temple, found a spot to fish, cast out my line, and waited. After many failed attempts, I thought I would need a special lure or hook to catch this fish, but finally Link reeled in the illegal fish. As It dangled from my line both Link and I looked at it in awe.
It was a hideous monster of a fish. Massive, bone crushing teeth fitting into it's giant head with a spine and rib cage that barely covered it's organs. I then realized that this fish is the creature that attacks Link when he swims through certain bodies of water. When I let it swim away, it gave me a heart just like a normal fish.
After catching the Skullfish I realized that there are many other hidden things that had to do with the creatures in Twilight Princess. I now had my own personal quest, to find the hidden and forbidden creatures in the world of Zelda.
Soon after catching the forbidden fish I realized that I needed to complete a howling stone that I forgot about. I traveled to the Snowpeak Trail hoping that would be the place on the map where I would find it. Once I found it I realized that I traveled all that way for nothing. I had already done that stone.
Making the trip worthwhile I went on the hunt for rupees and other items that were useful to me. In my Links wolf form I found a dig spot that took me to an underground cave. I started destroying everything. I could gain useful items, when something caught my eye. The creature sounded like a Chu yet it glittered. Quickly I wheedled my sword and turned the Chu into jelly for me to scoop up. I pulled out a jar in an attempt to capture the sparkling substance. Once I moved close enough for Link to scoop it up it dissolved.
I decided to look up the glittering Chu, wondering if it was something that I wanted to carry in my inventory and if it was even possible to scoop it up. With my searching I found out that it was called the Rare Chu, and it's a sparkling yellow color and had the same effect as Great Fairy Tears. Knowing that I lost something extraordinary, a full health bar and extra power, I started the search for another Rare Chu. The one down side of these Chu is that once you have one in your possession you can't get another until you use it. The website said that they show up in Ordon Ranch, Death Mountain Trail, Snowpeak Trail, and Cave of Ordeals.
I decided to try my luck in Death Mountain. As I was searching in the caves, I suddenly heard the distinct sound of the Chu. I felt excitement buzz through me. Turning Link around I saw it, the Rare Chu was right in front of me. This time I made sure to be within scooping distance when the Chu turned to sparkly jelly. Link hit the creature with his sword and quickly scooped it up once it dissolved. I felt unbeatable with this newfound power in my inventory.
The next and last thing I had to do in the game was defeat the final boss, Ganondorf. I had the Rare Chu and a bottle of Great Fairy Tears ready to use for this special occasion, but I didn't want to fight him. Instead I decided to attack some of the local cucco's, or chickens, as we know them, in Kakariko Village just to see what would happen. I thought they would attack Link, not do anything or even disappear but I was not expecting what happened.
After constantly slashing at one cucco with my sword the screen went dark for a moment. Once it lightened up the screen was not facing Link instead it was focusing on the cucco that I was attacking. It was squawking and flapping it's wings causing feathers to fly everywhere. I moved the joystick to find that I was in control of the cucco. For about a minute I had the cucco run around, jump off things, and try to fly. Link and I found another way to relax, besides fishing, after a hard day.
Turning into a chicken and avoiding the actual story line of the game is something that eases my stress. These secrets will hopefully bring joy to the players of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Very interesting and well written. Even someone who does ot know the games can find the situations very interesting, as there is a lot to be learned from a really great game. My sons used to be fascinated by Zelda. :rose: I am hooked on the old Mariokart for Super Nintendo, and can't wait to return home and play it I always drive as Donkey Kong, too. :jedi:
